Webby is a Web Browser created especially for the Pocket Pc platform. It provides many exciting features that truly make it the best mobile browsing experience on the planet.
To find out the latest news about Webby, visit the Webby Start page.
The Basics
The user interface of Webby is similar to Pocket IE, the Web Browser that comes with the Pocket Pc.
Navigation can be performed using one of the menu items in the menu, the toolbar or gesture recognition. It's recommended you give them all a try.
The Toolbar
The toolbar gives quick access to the most (allegedly) common browser actions. Just tap the buttons.
Back - Go back in the browser history Forward - Return from where you just came back from Home - Go to your home (set this in View->Options) Refresh/Stop - Use this button to reload the current page. If a page is already loading, use this button to stop it.
The Menus
Go
Use items on the "Go" menu to navigate the current browser window to another web location.
Address Shows the "Address" dialog. Webby differs from other browsers in that the address must be entered in a seperate dialog. This dialog is designed to allow a user to enter web urls very quickly using predefined text parts commonly used in web urls. Back Goes back a page in the browser history Forward Goes forward to a page you previously went back from Home Redirects the browser to your "home" page. You can customise your home page in View->Options. Note: This home page is shared with the "Pocket Ie" web browser. Search Redirects the browser to your favourite search engine. You can customise your search url in "View->Options".
View
The view menu allows you to execute actions on the current page.
Layout Use the layout menu to tell Webby how to format the web pages you request.
Note: You can only use a "Microbrowser" if the web page you are requesting is accessible from the Microbrowser provider. For example, if you are trying to access a web page on your secured intranet site, then the Microbrowser provider (such as Skweezer) wont be able to access your website. Text Size Sets the size of the text. "Smallest" is recommended for most CE devices.
Refresh Reloads the current page
Copy Address to Clipboard Copies the current web address to the clipboard. Webby attempts to strip any special Microbrowser tags prior to copying the item to the clipboard
Properties... Shows some information about the current. page. By default the contents of this dialog are also copied to the clipboard. (This behaviour can be turned off using an option under View->Options.
Save to File... Attempts to save the next link you click as a file. Although this functionality works for most pages, sometimes javascript redirection or other "tricks" may not allow you to download the file. It's recommended that you use the "In Pocket IE..." option on the page. Note: This will not work on secure (https) websites as network credentials are not available when Webby downloads the source.
View Source... Downloads the web page as html text and displays this in a special dialog. This can be useful for technical people who are interested in the technical details of a web page. Note: This will not work on secure (https) websites as network credentials are not available when Webby downloads the source. In Pocket IE... Views the current web page in Pocket Internet Explorer History... A diagnostic option that shows a technical dump of the browser history. Rss Feeds... This option shows the Rss Feed reading window. Add Rss Feed... Adds the next link clicked as an Rss Feed
Favs
The Favs menu (short for Favourites) shows you a list of urls you visit regularly. To add to this list, use the "Add..." menu item. These favourites are shared with the Pocket Ie web browser.
Add To Favorites... Adds the current web page as favourites.
Organise Favorites... Shows the favourites using File Manager to allow organisation (and deletion) of favourites.
Register This Copy... This option redirects to the registration website.
Tabs
The Tabs menu gives a user the ability to have multiple browser tabs (or windows) open simultaneously. The page titles of any active tabs will be shown here. Simply click on one to switch to the appropriate tab.
The "Gestures" feature of Webby provides many more options when working with tabs.
Close Current Closes the current tab (if you only have one tab open, it removes the entire application from memory)
Closes All Closes all tabs and removes Webby from memory
New Tab... This will create a new tab, using the current page Url.
New Tab using Link... Creates a new tab using the link you click on next
Gestures
Webby allows you to perform common browser actions by dragging the stylus in various directions or performing "gestures"
Enabling Gestures
To enable gestures, go into "View->Options", go to the "Gestures" tab and click the "Enable Gestures" checkbox. When you return to the Webby browser window you should see the "Gesture Gadget". ()
Making Gestures
To gesture, hold the stylus briefly on the "Gesture Gadget", then drag it in the desired direction. The easiest Gesture is "Back".
Viewing Available Gestures
To see which Gestures Webby understands, tap and hold on the "Gesture Gadget", then click the "Configure..." menu item. You will see a list of actions with matching gestures. Gestures are stored as sequence of characters matching gesture strokes:
R - Right L - Left U - Up D - Down

Configuring Gestures
To configure tap and hold on the "Gesture Gadget", then click the "Configure..." menu item. You will see a list of actions with matching gestures.
Rss Feeds
Webby has a built in Rss Reader. Although simple, it provides a powerful way of reading up to date information in a way that's integrated with your web browsing experience.
Adding Feeds
There are two ways to add Rss Subscriptions. You can do it "manually" from the Subscriptions dialog using the "Subscriptions->Add .." menu, or use the "View->Add Rss Feed..." menu option within a Browser tab.
Adding Feeds Manually
To add feeds manually, click on the "Vire->Rss Feeds..." menu item, then tap the "Subsciptions->Add..." menu item within the Rss Feeds dialog.
When this is schosen, the following prompt is shown:
Type in the url of the feed here (eg http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn&output=rss)
Webby should then be able to retreive some feed details and display this dialog:
Press ok and your feed will be added.
Note: Sometimes a message box will be shown indicating the feed could not be parsed for some reason (especially if a username and password must be supplied). Don't worry about this, just overwrite the default details.
